Activities/Clubs

Band is a group of musicians led by Mr. Ricketts. They are involved in many performances at our school, in the community and for county competitions. No experience is needed so be sure to reach out to your student's guidance counselor if learning an instrument is of interest to you.

​Activity Description:   Students will compete against local middle school teams in the upcoming Battle of the Books.  Students will have the opportunity to read, discuss and create questions about this book and other award-winning books.  Students will then ​compete in battles against local schools in the Battle of the Books Championships.

Activity Description:  Beta Club is a national organization that promotes service and leadership. Membership is based on the National Beta Club Guidelines. Students must have a 3.7 GPA or higher from the previous school year to join. They must also have all level 1’s in conduct and no referrals in order to be considered for membership.

Activity Description: The DeLand Middle FFA chapter strives to build in each of its members, the mission statement of the National FFA Organization: premier leadership, personal growth and career success. To achieve these goals, members participate in monthly chapter meetings, leadership conferences, career development events, and community service projects. Members have the opportunity to raise livestock and work on a traditional farm, which is located on campus. Travel to state and national conventions is also an option form members receiving recognition at these levels.

Activity Description: The FFEA Club is a service learning student organization with a state and national support system. Students interested in pursuing a career in the educational field are welcome to join the club to learn more about the responsibilities of teaching and the path to take to become a teacher. Club members are given the opportunity to work one on one with teachers in their classrooms helping prepare and deliver lessons. Club members also will have the opportunity to assist teachers in their classrooms and help with service related projects on school campus.

Activity Description:  This club is open to any girls that meet the requirements.  Players will learn the game of basketball or improve their game.  Individual skills, drills, offensive/defensive schemes, and scrimmages will take place.  Attending the club will prepare the players for tryouts in March. Be respectful, able to follow directions and listen while having a positive attitude.​

Activity Description: The purpose of the Pep Squad is to promote team spirit and exemplify sportsmanship to create enthusiasm for team sports and DeLand Middle School. The squad will perform at basketball games, participate in school and community activities, and possibly perform on a competitive level.

Activity Description: Rising sisters will focus on academic and social issues through group activities, progress reports and journal writing. Every other month a female quest speaker will discuss her occupation and the multitude of opportunities that lie ahead. The goal is to have the students volunteer at a retirement home, dine-out using proper etiquette, tour local university, and participate in school and school activities.

Activity Description: Student Government is a service organization that incorporates leadership skills and community service. As leaders the students are expected to maintain a B average and earn all 1’s in conduct. The students are responsible for various fundraisers to enhance the DMS environment and to assist at school events.

Activity Description:   Science Olympiad is a nationally recognized as an academic science competition.  Our school team will prepare for a regional competition at Embry Riddle University in January. This year to be competitive we are registering two teams, each with 15-17 members.  The registration fee is $30.00 per student with scholarships available. Students expressing interest need to request further information from their science teacher or see Mrs. French​ and Mr. Stephenson​.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Patenaude, I teach 7th grade at DeLand Middle School. I host the Young Women in STEM club, which meets every Tuesday (starting August 30th) from 4:15-5:15pm in room 707.

This club is meant for young women who are interested in careers in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) field and want a safe, supportive environment to explore their interests. Students will engage in STEM projects of their choice, participate in field trips, and interact with women in STEM careers. My goal is for our young women to discover their interest in STEM and have the confidence to pursue their dreams.

Please support the Terrier Pride Pantry at DeLand Middle. The Pride Pantry is the school based enterprise for the VE Modified program. All proceeds go to the students as the learn employability skills and improve on independent functioning. Students work the staff coffee and snack bar by making the coffee daily and stocking the items teachers purchase. The Terrier Pride Pantry is pleased now to be offering "Culinary Delights" created by Chef Halterman's Culinary Arts classes as well.

Terrier Talk is a new and exciting club being offered at DeLand Middle. It provides students the ability to explore news casting by reporting the daily announcements in front of a live video camera. Announcements will be recorded and played for the student body during 1^st period classes. This is a great opportunity for students to build confidence, develop strong social skills and establish a positive presence on campus amongst staff and peers. Media Release required for participation.
